The Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) is an institute of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB). The FVB comprises seven non-university research institutes in Berlin which are funded by the federal and state governments. The research institutes belong to the Leibniz Association.
WIAS invites applications for a
Research Assistant Position (f/m/d)
(Ref. 25/07)
in the Research Group
“Nonlinear Optimization and Inverse Problems”
(Head: Prof. Dr. D. Hömberg) starting as soon as possible.
The project is part of a BMBF project concerning industrial scale data preparation for new quantum computing algorithms. It will rely on statistical structure learning represented by knowledge graphs and efficient low-rank tensor compressions.
We are looking for: A completed scientific university degree and a Ph.D. (or equivalent experience) in mathematics or a closely related field is required. Moreover, the candidate should be familiar with statistical/logical knowledge representation, hierarchical tensor formats, their relation to quantum circuits and optimization approaches. A track record of mathematical software development will strengthen the application.
What we offer:
- WIAS Berlin is a premier research institution known for its strength in mathematical mod-eling, optimization, dynamical systems, and applied mathematics in general.
- Payment according to the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD Bund) including the usual social benefits (30 vacation days in a 5-day week, company pension plan); subsidy for the company ticket for public transport
